By way of his lawyer, Babak Rafati has explained the reasons behind his suicide attempt. His lawyer explained in an announcement that it was an "urgent concern of Mr. Rafati to let the people know why he tried to commit suicide".
According to that, Rafati has suffered from heavy depressions for more than one year. "In the personal feeling of him, especially the growing pressure as referee and the consequent medial pressure in combination with the permanent fear of making mistakes led to a heavy stress".
Rafati has decided to assume professional help by medicines and is going to undergo a therapy. According to himself, if the therapy is successful, he will be able to continue his career as referee.
